Apps we like - Sunrise

Sunrise takes what we all know about a calendar app and adds a dose of social networking and cloud functionality to create a connected organizer, which will make keeping on top of your events a cinch.

User Interface & Experience

For something as mundane as calendaring, the app is absolutely gorgeous.

Sunrise will chronologically arrange your events and categorize them with tiny icons. These icons help a lot while doing a quick scan of your schedule. Sunrise will even give you the directions to your next appointment and weather forecast based on your location.

Creating an event is also fun with Sunrise. You just select the type of event from a dropdown and it fills in the time for you. For example, tap on dinner and the time autofills to dinner time. The category icons next to the events are auto-selected based on the event type. For example, ‘movie at Sundance’, will select a film strip icon. It’s the little details like these that really seal the deal for me.

One App for all Calendars

Not just a pretty face, it has all the functionality of a typical calendar app. It connects to Google Calendar, iCloud Calendar, and Facebook Events and Birthday reminders. All in one place (almost; they are working on Exchange Calendar).

“People have only one life, and everything should be in one place,” – Pierre Valade, Co-founder, Sunrise.

Unlike other Calendar apps, Sunrise has a cloud layer that enables them to recreate the same Sunrise experience across all your devices.

Social Awesomeness

Sunrise puts a face to the event attendees. You can learn more about the people you are meeting in a single tap, thanks to the integration with LinkedIn. And, you can connect with the attendees on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn, right within the app.

To take it to the next level, it not only shows you Facebook birthdays, but also lets you leave a celebratory note on your friend’s wall. There are also Foursquare checkins in the calendar view, a nice way to know how you spent your last month.

So if you’ve been looking for a calendar replacement for your iOS device, look no further, you just found your answer here. Download Sunrise on your iPhone and iPad today.
